Youth Praise 2

Outside cover Inside cover (our copies)
"Youth Praise" (later known as Youth Praise 1 - the one with the green cover) had been a successful youth songbook published in the mid-sixties, and contained fairly traditional hymns and youth songs.

Youth Praise 2 (orange cover) was launched in Manchester and London in November 1969, and contained a number of songs written by UK gospel groups of the day, as well as older songs.  Most of the songs by gospel groups were contained in a section called "Outreach", because they were concerned with witness and evangelism.  In that sense, these songs were probably not very useful for public worship.  Other songs in the book were more appropriate for 'praise' and 'worship', and this was probably around the start of the 'explosion' of the trend of young Christians writing songs for worship rather than for evangelism.   The Christian music scene was changing.

Youth Praise 2 was put together by, amongst others, Rev Michael Baughen, vicar of Holy Trinity, Platt, Manchester (later to be at All Souls' Langham Place and then to become Bishop of Chester)
